This blog post recounts the renovation journey of a bathroom in a house built in 1952. The bathroom, added in the 1990s, was in desperate need of an upgrade. The renovation aimed to create a luxurious and spacious primary bathroom, incorporating a sitting vanity area and reconfiguring the layout for an open feel. The result was a stunning sanctuary that exuded tranquility and elegance, with carefully chosen fixtures and a spa-like ambiance.
Before we embarked on the construction journey, let me tell you about this fascinating bathroom. The house itself was built back in 1952, but this particular bathroom was an addition from the 1990s. Unfortunately, it had seen better days and was in dire need of some tender loving care. Our vision was clear - we wanted to transform this space into a true, opulent primary bathroom. It needed a touch of luxury, a sense of openness, and a nice ambiance.
Our plan was simple yet ambitious. We opted for a design build project, aiming to maximize functionality and aesthetics. We decided to incorporate a sitting vanity area, providing an additional space for someone to get ready. To make the most of the available space, we reconfigured the layout. The first order of business was bidding farewell to the enormous bay of cabinets that dominated the room. We also demolished the wall between the shower and the original vanity, creating a sense of openness. The entire space underwent a thorough gutting, followed by a fresh coat of lighter paint to brighten things up. Using the same tile on the floor as the shower wall gave the room a more spacious appearance. The fixed panel glass shower door contributed to the open feel, while the larger vanity provided much-needed storage.
The results exceeded our expectations. We successfully fashioned a primary bathroom that evokes a sense of sanctuary. Personally, I adore this space. It exudes a tranquil spa-like atmosphere that instantly puts me at ease. The little niche nestled within the black and white tiles at the back of the shower brings me immense joy. For the fixtures, we chose a beautiful gold finish for the faucets and light fixtures, with a touch of chrome in the shower. We opted for an upgraded showerhead, adding a touch of luxury to the overall experience. Sometimes, we embrace fixtures that complement each other without necessarily matching, purely because we love the aesthetic they create.
In the end, our efforts yielded a stunning sanctuary - a primary bathroom that invites relaxation and indulgence. This lovely bathroom was part of a large-scale entire home renovation. If you liked this - you might also like to check out the kitchen remodel on this home.
